In Yale New Haven Hospital, Saturday, December 6, 2014, Cynthia Leigh Eckstrom Butterworth of Mt. Carmel, Hamden, passed away peacefully. Beloved partner for 18 years and wife for 16 years of Frank (Butch) S. Butterworth III. Leigh was born April 5, 1956 in Orange, NJ beloved daughter of Richard S. Eckstrom and Cynthia Norton Eckstrom longtime residents of Guilford. She is survived by two step-children, Frank (Oliver) Butterworth IV and Olivia Butterworth and two nephews, Tyler and Cody Eckstrom. Predeceased by a brother Thomas Norton Eckstrom and a sister, Elisabeth Anne Eckstrom.
Leigh is a graduate of Hopkins and received her bachelors degree in Sports Medicine from Southern CT State Univ. Prior to her family moving to Guilford permanently in 1966, Leigh spent her early childhood summers at the Guilford shore. She was the proprietor of Oakstream Originals, which specialized in embroidering uniforms for various Polo Clubs among several other organizations. Leigh was the driving force in developing the Giant Valley Polo Club and active in the Gulf Stream Polo Club in Florida. She was an avid boater and fisherman.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 12 at 11 am in Christ Episcopal Church, 11 Park St, Guilford. Burial will follow in Westside Cemetery, Three Mile Course, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC, 20090-6929.
