Jennifer Lee WelchThe world lost a beautiful and brave young woman on August 12, 2013. She fought the fight and like so many of our loved ones…lost the battle. She did not go willingly but she did go peacefully surrounded by her family and dear dear friends. She has left behind her wonderful soul mate and wife…Meredith Thornton and their beloved pups Aiko and Olive. Mer and Jen began as friends but it turned into much more. They were married last year and it was a truly wonderful happening..two brides in white…incredible. They were meant for each other. Jennifer Lee Welch was brought into this world on January 12, 1975 by her mom and dad, Dave and JoAnn (Flanagan)Welch and her big brother David got a beloved little sister. Not too very long afterwards along came her Irish Twin and Bud for eternity Patrick .Jen then became the big sister to Meghan and Elizabeth, and the family was complete. Well….in the years to come there would be many more additions to this Welch clan. Througout her 38 years Jen has had many jobs , a worker she was.!! She worked at Donnellys, She waitressed at Frankies, Nicks , she bartended at Peter Ryans, Porters, Highliner and finally at Bill’s Seafood. She also worked for the United States Post Office starting in Clinton, then Centerbrook and Ivoryton. But I think her most favorite job was caring for and walking dogs…and she could walk 7 at a time! She was certainly a lover of dogs and they loved her right back. Jennifer found out she had this wicked form of cancer almost 6 years ago. She was one of Smilow’s first patients when they opened their doors. She was a favorite and the Doctors really never gave up. She had more chemo treatments than any person should have to endure. Jen kept going, would not give up, was always in control of her care , smiled through all of it….a true Celtic Warrior in anyone’s book. If you knew Jennifer, you knew her smile. There was none better in this world . She could make you happy no matter what your day had been. She loved working with the public…a task not shared by many. Whether she was making a martini for someone or mailing a package or cleaning up after a dog..she had that smile that would light up the room. We will always remember that smile…we have tucked it into our hearts. Jennifer had many loves in her life…her parents, her siblings and grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins…she had truly wonderful friends . She loved being Irish, Caribbean beaches, sailing and she loved to travel! She leaves behind sister in laws..Sopha Welch and Rachel Rice Welch and brother in law Michael Masalski. Ten nieces and nephews…Celest Devon, Tyler, Sonya, Liam and Luke, Joey, Taylor and Jax , Welch’s all and the newest addition Reid Masalski. Auntie Jen was their favorite!!!
