Mr. Caesar C. AltomareCaesar C. Altomare passed away quietly Saturday afternoon June 29at his home in Guilford surrounded by family members. Loving husband of the late Josephine Cosenza Altomare, Caesar is survived by his son Robert and his wife Carol; his daughter Patricia Nealon and her husband Robert; his son Christopher and his wife Denise; his daughter Carol Altomare and her husband John Young; his sister Amelia Altomare; as well as six grandchildren Edwin, Kimberly, Kristen, Matthew, Annemarie and Christine. He was predeceased by a son, Philip, in 1962. Caesar grew up in New York, New York and attended St Anselm's School, Regis High School and Fordham University, where he completed doctoral coursework in Romance Languages. As a buyer for the City of New York, Caesar met Josephine Cosenza and they married shortly thereafter. He had a 37-year career with the Purchasing Department, retiring as Deputy Commissioner in 1978. Caesar was a World War II Army veteran and served as an interrogator of Italian prisoners of war. He was active in the American Legion and served in many capacities, including Post Commander. A beloved father, he often joined his children in sporting activities, enjoying many Sundays on the playgrounds of PS16 and PS 87 in the Bronx. Caesar was an avid and committed walker well into his later years, enjoying treks in Yonkers, New York and Guilford. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St, Guilford on Saturday, July 6 at 10am. Visitors may call Friday, July 5 from 5 – 8 pm at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. Burial with Full Military Honors will be held in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY, Wednesday, July 10 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Clelian Adult Day Center, 261 Benham St, Hamden, CT 06514; Scholarship Fund of the Franciscan Apostolate, 93 Country Way, Madison, CT 06443.
