In CT Hospice, Branford on Saturday, June 21, 2014, Clifford J. Sneider Sr, 105, longtime resident of Madison. Beloved husband of the late Evelyn Mary Empoliti Sneider. Born on April 14, 1909 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Theodore F. and Mary Elizabeth Combs Sneider. Loving father of Clifford J. Sneider Jr. of Guilford and Helen M. Sneider of Madison. Also survived by four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Mr. Sneider worked for various shipyards throughout Connecticut including Saybrook, Essex and Middletown. To help the World War II effort at home Mr. Sneider built PT boats and experimental props and had been awarded a US Navy Ship Rite. Clifford was adept in woodworking and at one point owned and operated Sneider Carpentry. He also worked for Yale University in the Physics Department and retired from there after close to 40 years. Throughout his life, he enjoyed music and was an accomplished pianist, in which he played at Carnegie Hall and for Saturday morning radio shows broadcast on the BBC. He also enjoyed building model airplanes from scratch.
Funeral services will be held at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford on Thursday, June 26 at 10 am. Burial will in Resurrection Cemetery, Westbrook. Friends may call at the Guilford Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 25 from 5 to 8 pm.
