Mila Britner, died peacefully on Tuesday, June, 3 , 2014, at Yale New Haven Hospital. Mila was born on April 26, 1921 in the small Czechoslovak town of Kostelec Cer Lesy, later moving to Prague.
After the end of World War II, she met her first husband, George H. Pappas, an officer in the U.S. Armed Forces serving in Czechoslovakia. They married, and in 1946 she arrived in the United States to begin her new life as a longtime resident of Greenwich, Connecticut, rapidly becoming fluent in English. She and her husband were divorced in 1984, but remained friends.
Mila enjoyed music, gardening, cooking, traveling and walks on the beach where she met George F. Britner, a retired naval officer from Old Greenwich. Mila and Brit married and moved to Guilford, CT where she lived the rest of her life. Both husbands predeceased her.
Mila is survived by her children: Nancy Rohinsky of Guilford; Gregory Pappas (Jane), of Boxford, Massachusetts; and grandchildren Marissa Simas (Jon) of Attleboro, Massachusetts; and Alexander and Haley Pappas, of Boxford, Massachusetts.
A private burial will be held at Alder Brook Cemetery. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Meals on Wheels, Suite 200, 310 State St, Guilford, CT 06437.
