Mrs. Cornelia Vermeltfoort LattaSweet and strong to the end, after the long, slow goodbye of Alzheimer’s Disease, Cornelia Vermeltfoort Latta passed away peacefully on January 16, 2014. Cornelia “Corry” Latta was born in Eindhoven, Netherlands on May 3, 1928 to a large family with 6 children. During a World War, things were not easy, but Corry was raised in a loving family who all helped each other get by. She is survived by her husband, 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grand child, her brothers, Wil, Theo, and Pete, and her sister Jo. She will join her eldest sister Nelly in Heaven. Corry had a taste for adventure and travel. After attending a business school, she headed to Spain to be a governess. She learned fluent Spanish and spoke many languages with ease. Active in the Catholic Church, she ultimately landed a secretarial job in Washington D.C. with Bishop Hannah who later became the Archbishop of New Orleans. There she met Roderick Latta who was attending Georgetown University. They married and eventually settled with their 3 children Gregory, Michelle and Marjorie in Yorktown Heights, New York. Corry was athletic throughout her life and made staying in shape a priority. She also worked at Yorktown High School for many years as a Teacher’s Aide and was affectionately called “Moods”, short for Moeder or Mother in Dutch, by her children and their friends. Corry was a wiz at mathematics, played duplicate bridge in a club and had many friends. Her loving and easy demeanor made her an approachable and inviting person. Her strength made her a foundation for her family. For the past 10 years with her disease, she has received unending and loving care from her husband of 55 years. Well tu Reusta Corry, Mom, Oma, we love you and will never forget you.
