In Guilford, Sunday, March 30, 2014, Meredith M. Thompson, 70, of Guilford passed away peacefully in her home. Meredith was born in Jefferson City, MO on October 6, 1943, the eldest of three children and daughter of the late Orville George Wallau and Marie Zickel Wallau. Beloved mother of Michelle Thompson of Guilford. Also survived by her brother, H. Joseph Wallau III and niece Lori Meckstroth, both of Overland Park, KS and a nephew, Christopher Wallau of Colorado Springs, CO.
Meredith earned her Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Florida International University and had worked at Yale New Haven Hospital for almost twenty years with Management Information Systems. She was a member of Mensa and enjoyed hiking, skiing, bowling and playing softball with the M.I.S.Fitz. Meredith supported the advancement of literacy among American Indian children and volunteered with the Special Olympics.
Meredith traveled extensively, residing in Australia for six years and spending time in Germany, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt and Pakistan. One of her favorite adventures was backpacking through France for a month for her 50th birthday with her daughter Michelle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitefield St, Guilford on Saturday April 5th at 11am. Burial will follow Mass in St. George Cemetery, Hubbard Road, Guilford with a reception at Branford Evangelical Free Church, 231 Leetes Island Road in Branford. Friends and family may call on Friday April 4th from 5 to 8pm at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford.
