Marie Natalie Zito Carletti, 91, wife of the late Alpidio (Pete) Carletti, passed away Friday, January 17, at CT Hospice. Marie was born on Christmas Day,1922, in New Haven, CT to Anthony and Michelina (Lucibella) Zito. Marie leaves her beloved children: Peter and Marie (Seipel) Carletti of Branford, CT and Joan and Richard Cuomo, of Guilford, CT. She also leaves three grandchildren: Michele (David) Ahouse, Jason R. Cuomo, and Jessica (Jeremy) Mularski, and her great-grandchildren: Sophia and Theo Ahouse and Noelle Mularski. Marie was preceded in death by her brother, Andrew Richard Zito, and brother-in-law, Peter Lupoli. She leaves her loving family: Michael (Stephanie) Zito, Angelina Lorraine Lupoli, and sister-in-law, Ann Zito, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Marie grew up with hardship during the Depression. She graduated from Hillhouse High School and Stone School of Business. Marie was an excellent student and a dedicated worker. She was employed by the NET, the North Branford Building Dept., the NY, NH, and Hartford Railroad, and Picker International, where she held a supervisory position.
First and foremost, Marie was a Catholic with deep faith and a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a caregiver to her parents and her husband, who died at a young age from ALS. Marie was a loving, compassionate, just, and merciful woman, who put other people's needs before her own. Marie lived by two maxims: the "Golden Rule" and "you never understand a person until you walk a mile in his or her shoes." People were better for knowing Marie.
During her retirement, Marie enjoyed taking courses at Gateway Community College and at the Madison and Guilford Senior Centers. She especially enjoyed Spanish, Poetry, Art, and Communications classes. She volunteered for the Madison Depot Senior Center and at Stevens Woods; walked along the Shoreline in Madison; and attended local operatic and theatrical performances. Marie remembered with fondness traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe with her family and friends. Marie's family is very grateful for all
who provided spiritual care and healthcare during her prolonged illness.
